About us

Lleida's free voice

Our mission

La 101 de Lleida is a digital newspaper born of the conviction that Lleida deserves rigorous reporting, free of separatist ideological filters and without apology. We publish every day with a single commitment: to report what happens, with the facts and their sources up front.

While other local media look the other way or bow to the interests of the independence movement, we give a voice to what worries the people of Lleida: public safety, honest management of public money, the unity of Spain and the defence of the values that have made us great as a people.

Editorial line

La 101 de Lleida is a newspaper on the political right, rooted in Catholic values, that defends the unity of Spain and puts Lleida first. We believe in individual freedom, equality before the law, safety as a fundamental right and the responsible management of public affairs. We are critical of separatism and unafraid to call things by their name.

We have no organic link to any political party. Parties appear in our pages as actors in the news, never as a point of reference for the newspaper.

We always keep news and opinion apart: facts are published verified and attributed to their sources; opinion appears only in the Opinion section, clearly labelled.

Independence and funding

La 101 de Lleida does not accept public subsidies. It is currently funded from its own resources: neither local advertising nor membership fees are active yet, and we will say so here when they are. Editorial decisions are taken by the La 101 de Lleida newsroom, which is accountable for everything it publishes. If you would like to help sustain it, join the members' list.

How we work

La 101 de Lleida uses artificial intelligence to track sources, select stories and write them, and publishes in Catalan, Spanish and English. It does so automatically: an automated check decides what is published, and anything that fails it is held back. This lets us report every day without depending on the big media groups.

How we verify

What we do. Every day we monitor Lleida's media and public bodies (Segre, La Mañana, official statements from the City Council…) and select the stories that affect the city and the surrounding area. An artificial intelligence system writes them up from those sources.

What we check before publishing. An automated check verifies that the figures, quotes, nationalities and allegations in the text appear in the sources. If something cannot be checked, the piece is not published and is held back.

What you will see in every article. The sources it cites, with their original outlet, and the publication date. Opinion pieces carry that label: they express a position of the newsroom and are not verified reporting.

Verification status. When a piece is published on the basis of a single official source, it may carry a status bar:

  • Being verified Published with a single official source; we expect a second independent source before the time shown.
  • Verified A second independent source has confirmed it.
  • Single source It could not be confirmed by another source; the information comes from a single official source, which is linked.
  • Withdrawn The piece remains on the website, marked and collapsed, with the reason for its withdrawal. Nothing is quietly deleted.

What we do not do yet. We do not yet cross-check every story against several independent sources or against open official data (Mossos d'Esquadra, Idescat). We are adding this. Today a story may rely on a single source, which is why we always show which one.

Corrections

If you spot a fact that does not add up, let us know from the contact page or by writing to redaccion@la101delleida.com with a link to the article. We review every report and, if there is an error, we correct the article; when the change is significant, we say so in the piece itself.
